When three dioceses gather their Youth Advisers, Youth Workers, School Chaplains and Children’s workers together for a day at our Beacon Activity Centre, you have a winning combination.
Coming away for the day provided a fantastic opportunity for 37 paid Youth and Children’s workers to see something of the ‘youth experience’ provided all year round by our dedicated Beacon Team. For Leaders across Bristol, Truro and Bath & Wells dioceses there was opportunity to worship, network, eat together, explore and, to be involved in a great team challenge.
Plus the zip wire offered spectacular views across Lee Abbey’s stunning 280 acre estate! The aim of the Lee Abbey Beacon Centre is to provide every one who visits (adult or child) the chance to be challenged physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually in a range of fun outdoor activities, and to discover more about themselves, each other and God. The diocesan teams took up the challenge with map reading, anagrams and a zip wire through the trees!
The Go Team (the Youth and Children’s) Advisers for Bath and Wells organised the day in partnership with neighbouring dioceses in the South West, to create a stimulating and inspiring day which would enrich their work with young people.
One Youth Adviser commented:
“Thanks very much for organising such a lovely event at Lee Abbey for us all. I really enjoyed it and it was good to meet other people doing similar work. My teenage son was interested to hear that I did the zip wire by choice (sometimes we have to prove these things…)
And a Youth Worker said:
“Just wanted to say a huge thanks for the day yesterday down at Lee Abbey – I really appreciated the time out and an opportunity to refocus on the calling of God to serve this generation”.
“I just want to say a big ‘thank you’ to Lee Abbey and especially the Beacon Team for looking after us so well’.
