Seeking the face of Jesus: Portraiture Retreat

20–24 October 2025 (Mon–Fri)

Through a focused week of learning portraiture skills, discover and enhance your techniques in your chosen art medium.  In daily art workshops we’ll learn to capture the outline, have courage to go deeper and see with new eyes, and be released to interpret the character and identity of our sitter, ourselves, and Jesus himself.

No experience necessary, but a love of learning and a desire to be challenged.  Materials provided, or bring your own as preferred. Please bring your own easel.

Who's speaking?

Mark Turner

Having graduated from the Royal College of Art in Textile design, Mark has taught art for many years.  He also worked in a Christian home for ex-offenders for 12 years.  The last eight years he has been running a retreat house with his wife Val in Hereford, encouraging all forms of creativity.

Val Turner

Parent, teacher, vicar and college chaplain, Val and her husband Mark now run a small retreat house in Hereford. Val has walked alongside many bereaved families and spends a large portion of her time training head teachers and their staff in how to journey the tragic circumstances that many children and their families find themselves in as a consequence of bereavement.
