Protestants are often guilty of ignoring or overlooking Mary within their Christian faith, and aren’t really sure what to do with her other than at Christmas. However, Mary’s life of Spirit-filled faithfulness has much to teach the contemporary church about what it means to love and follow Jesus. We will be examining the stories about Mary within scripture to see what she has to teach us, and we will be relating these insights to a range of contemporary issues.

Helen Collins
Helen Collins is Vice Principal (Academic) and Tutor in Practical Theology at Trinity College, Bristol. She has written on a range of topics, including Reordering Theological Reflection: Starting with Scripture (SCM), Mary the Worshipping Mother: Reclaiming Mary’s Motherhood for Contemporary Mums (Grove) and Charismatic Christianity: Introducing Its Theology Through the Gifts of the Spirit (Baker Academic). Her forthcoming publication is tentatively entitled: Mary the First Spirit-Filled Disciple. Helen is an ordained Anglican, she is married to Simon and is the mother to three teenaged children.
