Psalm 121

A song of ascents

I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD watches over you – the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life;

the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and for evermore.

Reflection

The Lord is your Maker. Be aware of the care and attention He has put into all He has made. God sees every detail of what is happening to you. He is attentive and watchful. Turn to Him for all the help you need right now. What does it feel like to be seen, to be heard and loved by God?

John 20:19-22

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’

After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’

And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’

Reflection

Jesus comes to meet us wherever we are. Be aware of His presence with you. Hear His word of peace spoken to you: His shalom, His wholeness and restoration. Breathe in His Holy Spirit, His gift of life. What do you want to say to Jesus at this time? What broken situations do you want to bring to Him?

A psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Reflection

The Lord is your shepherd. Be aware of the Lord guiding you along the right paths; He is with you even as you walk through times of shadow and fear. God is with you, even now, preparing and providing for your life. Remember God’s promises for you. As you walk the path of life, what is God saying to you through the journey we have taken together today?

Reflection

Be still and listen for the voice of the Lord. Ask God to show you signs of new life, even in the difficult places. Allow Him to refresh you with His presence, His Spirit. Tell Him your hopes and dreams. Is there something God is asking you to let go of? What is He asking you to trust Him for?

What is God saying to you in all that faces you today? Take a moment to join us on a walk down to Lee Bay beach from the gate by the car park. The track follows the stream down to the beach and we pass by the hydroelectric generator and the beautiful Chalet self-catering accommodation right next to the sea. Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.

Reflection

Know God. Invite Him in and be prepared to be fully known by Him, so that you can know Him too. God is totally dependable and reliable – unlike our own understanding, which so often falls short. We can trust His leading and guidance even before it is clear to us. We can trust Him even if we don’t understand. What is God saying to you in all that faces you today?

This walk begins in the woods south of the road and follows the gravel track to the pool that feeds a consistent flow of water to our hydroelectric power generator. Lamentations 3:21-26

Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

Reflection

Nothing whatsoever can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Call to mind signs of His compassion, faithfulness and goodness to you. Turn to your attention to your heavenly Father who loves you so deeply and fill your mind with the truth about his character. Look to Him to do what only God can do. How are you aware of being changed as you wait for the Lord and put your hope in him?
