Of course, not every day on Community is the same. But if there was such a thing as a typical day, here’s what it might look like.
Prayers and worship
Every day we meet in the morning and after lunch to pray for guests, Community and members of the Movement, and read the Bible. On Sunday evenings we have our weekly Community communion service and on Wednesdays we also meet in small groups for informal Bible study and other activities. On Sunday mornings we have a service with guests, which all Community are free to attend.
Working on your team
Your jobs and shift times will depend which team you’re on, but you’ll be working with a friendly bunch of team mates!
Meals and evening activities with guests
With elevenses (at 10.30), lunch, fourses (afternoon tea) and dinner, you are unlikely to starve! At lunch and dinner when we have guests, Community serve and eat with our guests, and clear plates afterwards.
Community members are also asked to join in the guest evening activities at least twice a week. These could include quizzes, international entertainment, Communion services or films – usually followed by hot chocolate and a “Christ in Quiet” reflection in the Chapel to end the day.
Community areas and activities
The Community lounge, TV lounge and kitchen become focal points for the social life of Community, particularly in the evenings after the end of the guest programme, and Community members often organise their own group activities too: walks, cinema and shopping trips, barbecues, worship times … you name it.
