“When I first heard of Lee Abbey, I was in a place of isolation and loneliness. I had flown away from my home in New Zealand to try working on a farm in Ireland. I had no friends, no time to go to church to make some, and I felt like I was sacrificing family for an empty overseas experience where I did all things I was ‘supposed’ to do.

“I was shown Lee Abbey by my sister. Because it had an estate team, it was relevant to my farming experience, but it wasn’t the typical work I did before.

“Now that I’ve been here four months, I can easily say Lee Abbey has turned me around a complete 180 degrees. I now get to work outside in one of the most beautiful places in the UK, I have an abundance of new friends, and I am fed by a wonderful kitchen team! Hallelujah!

“Lee Abbey is voluntary, but it pays you back with something far more important than money. I’ve learned so much in my work here, from theological conversations to serving others and simply living and enjoying friendship with so many unique people. Having an experience in a Christian community really grows you in so many ways.

“It’s not easy, it can be hard. Relationships with people and work can be difficult no matter where you come from. But I’ve found that having a community that genuinely cares for you in openness and honesty makes achieving anything feel possible. There is such a drive to serve and love one another in Christ. If you give it your all, they will give you theirs.”

Jono joined our estate team this year and has brought so much fun and laughter to the Community! He helps the estate team daily manage our 280-acres of farm and woodland and nearly 250 head of sheep, cows and pigs. We’re thankful God directed his steps to come here.

If you’re interested in Community life, growing your faith, and making lasting Christian friendship, we encourage you to take a step of faith and inquire. Visit our current vacancies page. We’re praying for you!
